The Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized the 25-MW Bugallon Solar Power Project (BSPP) as a project of national significance, solidifying its importance for the country’s energy security.

In a report by Manila Standard,  Bugallon Green Energy Corporation (BGEC) announced it has signed two major agreements with Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO), including a connection agreement and a distribution wheeling service agreement.

BGEC’s vice president for commercial operations, Maria Victoria Olivar, expressed excitement over reaching these milestones, which bring the company closer to delivering power under the Green Energy Auction 2 program.

Olivar stressed that BGEC will collaborate with local government units (LGUs), the DOE, Cenpelco, and other regulatory bodies to ensure the project’s successful development, which will help improve grid stability and create jobs in local communities.

BGEC is a subsidiary of Rizal Green Energy Corporation (RGEC), a joint venture between Taisei Corporation of Japan and PetroGreen Energy Corporation, part of the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC).

The DOE awarded the Certificate of Energy Project of National Significance (CEPNS) to the BSPP on November 13, 2024, recognizing the project’s role in bolstering the country’s energy infrastructure.

The CEPNS will streamline the permitting process for the project, expediting approvals from other government agencies.

The partnership between BGEC and Cenpelco, formalized on November 15, 2024, will ensure BSPP’s integration into the national grid, contributing to a more reliable energy supply for the region.
