The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has fully energized the P19.76-billion Cebu-Bohol Interconnection Project (CBIP), a major initiative to strengthen grid stability in Central Visayas.

According to a report by Philippine Star, the project is designed with a transmission capacity of 1,200 megawatts to meet Bohol’s rising energy demands while enhancing the overall resiliency of the regional grid.

Cebu’s position as the load center of the region by facilitating seamless power transmission in and out of the province.

The project involves 54.6 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, supported by 179 overhead towers spanning from Argao to the Dumanjug Substation

in Cebu and from Maribojoc to the Corella Substation in Bohol.

Additionally, the interconnection ensures N-1 contingency for the grid, allowing it to remain stable during outages by incorporating redundancies into the system. This serves as a safeguard against disruptions on the existing Leyte-Bohol transmission line.

Approved for implementation in January 2022, the CBIP aligns with NGCP’s long-term strategy to establish a 230-kV transmission loop connecting Leyte, Cebu, and Bohol.

The newly completed transmission corridor is expected to improve grid stability, security, and reliability, benefiting consumers across the region.

e of several major transmission projects recently c ompleted by NGCP, which include the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project, the Cebu-Negros-Panay Backbone Project, and the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose Transmission Line.
