DOE eyeing 11,160MW of RE under GEAP by 2026

DOE-RE 2

The Department of Energy (DOE) is targeting 11,160 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy under the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) from 2024 to 2026, Energy undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara said.

Guevara said that the DOE has proposed installation targets of 3,590 MW this year, 3,360 MW for 2025, and 4,390 MW in 2026.

The DOE official said that they are more aggressive this year versus the first round of the GEAP and that they are looking for RE developers who have ready capacity next year.

Of the 3,590 MW target for 2024, 2,400 MW will be targeted for the Luzon Grid, 860 MW for Visayas Grid, and 330 MW for the Mindanao grid.

The second round of the GEAP will be conducted during the second quarter of 2023.

In 2025, the target installations are 2,325 MW for the Luzon Grid, 940 MW for the Visayas Grid, and 365 MW for the Mindanao Grid.

Meanwhile, for 2026, the targets are 2,990 MW for the Luzon Grid, 905 MW for the Visayas Grid, and 495 MW for the Mindanao Grid.

The DOE looks to conduct the third round of the GEAP by the fourth quarter of 2023, which will include geothermal and impounding hydro resources.

During the first round of the GEAP, 19 bidders were awarded by the DOE which is expected to deliver 2,000 MW of RE capacity.
