The Department of Energy has begun preparations for its Green Energy Auction program slated for mid-2021 in a bid to further increase renewable energy (RE) use in the country.
During its first meeting two weeks ago, the green energy auction committee set out the work plan for the first auction scheduled in June, according to National Renewable Energy Board chair Monalisa Dimalanta.
The auction particularly refers to the competitive process for the procurement of RE supply.
Dimalanta said the capacity to be auctioned off is still being verified since power distributors had to adjust their projections, adding that Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi was open to hiking the initial capacity the auction would offer.
The committee hopes to iron out its plans by year’s end or by January 2021, Dimalanta said.
