Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) subsidiary MSpectrum, Inc. has teamed up with Edward Keller Philippines Inc. (EKPI) to aid the food manufacturer in cutting its carbon footprint and promoting environmental sustainability.
In a report by Manila Bulletin, EKPI’s facility in Carmelray Industrial Park, Laguna, will soon be equipped with a 630-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar power system from MSpectrum, with the project targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2025.
The solar project is projected to produce around 714,553 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy (RE) annually.
EKPI President Alexander Ong Oh said that the initiative will save the company Php 1.2 million annually in energy costs while reducing its carbon emissions by 422 metric tons. This reduction in emissions is equivalent to planting 23,000 trees or eliminating over 2.03 million kilometers of vehicle travel per year.
The solar project will allow EKPI to stabilize its energy costs for the next decade and maintain operations during planned power outages.
Oh expressed optimism about the collaboration with MSpectrum and hinted at future solar energy projects, saying the company may expand its renewable energy initiatives.
EKPI, a subsidiary of DKSH Philippines, specializes in producing ingredients for food, personal care, specialty chemicals, and pharmaceutical products.
