Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc (FREE) and Philippine DCS Development Corporation (PDCC) are launching three solar projects this coming 2024.

These solar projects would produce a combined capacity of 13.68 megawatts (MW) of solar energy for Meranseko, Nexperia, and Cemex Corporation, offering an additional 11,400 refrigeration tons (RT) of sustainable cooling capacity for Festival Supermall in Filinvest City, Alabang.

“Filinvest and ENGIE, through the services offered by our joint ventures, FREE and PDDC, are proud to help companies from energy-intensive industries to achieve their sustainability goals,” said Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Utilities Inc., the utility arm of Filinvest Group, and President of FREE.

Among the three solar projects, the largest is a 10.08 MW ground-mounted solar array, developed in collaboration with the cement producer’s subsidiary, APO Cement Corporation (APO Cement). The project, situated in Naga, Cebu, is anticipated to reduce over 9,000 metric tons (MT) of CO2 emissions annually.

Moreover, Cemex Holdings Philippines, the parent company of APO Cement, and ENGIE signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to investigate the deployment of diverse renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency solutions for Cemex’s facilities in Naga.

FREE also inked a deal with Nexperia, a semiconductor company based in the Netherlands, to deploy rooftop solar systems with a total capacity exceeding 3MW at Nexperia’s facilities. These facilities play a crucial role in processing approximately one billion microchips each year.

Meanwhile, Merasenko Corporation, a company specializing in medical products and solutions, collaborated with FREE to construct a 0.53 MWp rooftop solar system for their Cebu Light Industrial Park facility in Cebu City.

As for sustainable cooling, PDCC is set to develop a low-carbon centralized cooling system (CCS) for Festival Supermall in Alabang under a 20-year build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) contract.

Seen to be commissioned in 2025, the CCS complemented Festival Supermall’s 2.8 MW rooftop solar system, which commenced operations back in 2021 and was notably the largest rooftop solar project in Metro Manila to date.
