First Gen, Murata extend power supply contract

First Gen, Murata

First Gen Corporation and electronics manufacturer Murata extends its power supply contract to supply its Batangas factory with renewable energy (RE).

Through its subsidiary, Energy Development Corporation (EDC), which leads the Bacon-Manito geothermal plant, FirstGen would supply RE to the company’s local arm, Philippine Manufacturing Company of Murata, Inc. (PMM).

Since 2022, PMM’s production facility, located in Batangas’ First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) economic zone, has been Murata’s first overseas operation powered entirely on renewable energy.

“Together, we in First Gen and PMM are not just reducing emissions but also shaping a future where environmental responsibility and growth go hand in hand,” said First Gen President and Chief Operating Officer Francis Giles Puno.

PMM President Masayoshi Koda said that this partnership with First Gen emphasized their decarbonization and sustainability goals as they target to meet the demand while considering carbon-neutral and cost-efficient technologies.

Aside from maximizing geothermal energy, PMM had also stationed more than 6,700 solar panels in the plant’s vicinity, which would generate almost 3,000 kilowatts (kW) of electricity.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Tereso Panga shared that more ecozone locators are now considering green and sustainable proposals in industrial parks.

First Gen and PMM signed their first power supply agreement in 2021.
