Globe powers 33 high-use sites with renewables, reaches key milestone in Mindanao

Globe Telecom, Inc. marked World Environment Day by announcing that 33 of its high-energy utilization sites are now powered by renewable energy — a development that includes the company’s first clean energy-powered facilities in Mindanao.

This milestone reinforces Globe’s drive toward operational decarbonization and its commitment to sustainability goals.

“Renewable energy has been a real, operational commitment for us for the past six years,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe. “Each site we shift to clean power isn’t just about reducing emissions – it’s about building a future-proof network that puts people and the planet first.”

Globe sources its renewable energy through partnerships with licensed Retail Electricity Suppliers (RES) under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). These programs allow facilities with monthly average peak demands of 100 kW or higher (GEOP) and 500 kW or higher (RCOA) to contract directly for renewable electricity.

Thanks to these strategies, Globe has increased the share of renewables in its overall electricity consumption from 14% in 2021 to 24% in 2024, spanning corporate offices and mixed-use facilities.

Looking ahead, the company targets powering more than 150 sites with renewables over the next two years. This will be achieved through Power Purchase Agreements, on-site solar installations, and participation in the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), which allows adjacent facilities to share renewable supply contracts under RCOA.

These initiatives support Globe’s Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-approved goals: a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 25% cut in Scope 3 emissions by 2030 (based on 2021 levels), with an aim to slash absolute emissions by 90% across all scopes by 2050.

Globe’s progress also contributes to the Philippines’ Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement by increasing renewable demand and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
