Manila Water Co., Inc. has energized 2.5 megawatt-peak (MWp) of solar rooftop systems across three key facilities, aiming to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
In a Business World report, these solar installations contribute to cleaner energy by generating 3.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year and are expected to offset 2,576 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, supporting sustainability efforts.
In partnership with Malaysia-based Ditrolic Energy, the company has installed solar power systems at the Cardona Water Treatment Plant, East La Mesa Water Treatment Plant, and San Juan Compound.
Manila Water President and CEO Jose Victor Emmanuel A. de Dios said the company aims to expand its use of renewable energy, with a long-term goal of reaching 30 MWp in solar capacity.
The project is part of a 15-year power purchase agreement with Ditrolic Energy, signed in 2023, to integrate solar energy into Manila Water’s operations.
Meanwhile, Ditrolic Energy Group CEO Tham Chee Aun highlighted the seamless integration of clean energy into utility operations, reinforcing the company’s commitment to green investments.
Manila Water serves over 7.3 million customers in Metro Manila’s east zone and Rizal province, and its shift to solar energy aligns with its goal of enhancing energy efficiency while maintaining affordable water and wastewater services.
