Four power firms have expressed interest to participate in the 180 megawatt baseload (MW) and 300 MW peaking requirements of the Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO).
In a Business Mirror report, MERALCO first vice president and head of regulatory management office, Jose Ronald Valles said that there are four total interested bidders, but has declined to disclose the identities while the competitive selection process (CSP) is ongoing.
Valles is hopeful that the CSP can be concluded in time for the start of delivery of supply on March 26.
If the power supply agreements (PSAs) are approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), these will cover for the hot dry season when demand for power is at its peak, Valles said.
The 300 MW peaking power requirement involves a five month-contract supposedly to commence on February 26 to July 25.
Meanwhile, the 180 MW baseload requirement is needed from February 26 to February 25, 2024.
As of end-September 2022, MERALCO reported a six percent increase in electricity sales to 36,553 gigawatt-hours (GWh) from the previous year’s 34,398 GWh.
