The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has announced an overall electricity rates decrease to P10.2866 per kilowatt hour, compared to last month’s P10.5594 per kWh.
The downward adjustment of P0.2278 per kWh will have a decrease of around P55 in the total bill of a typical household consuming 200 kWh.
Generation charge also went down P5.5508 per kWh from the previous month’s P5.6322 per kWh, which is a decrease of P0.0814 per kWh.
This is due to lower charges from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Power Supply Agreements (PSAs), by P0.7544 per kWh and P0.5143 per kWh respectively.
In spite of these lower rates, charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) went up by P3.5355 per kWh because of tight supply conditions in the Luzon grid, resulting in seven yellow alerts and seven red alerts.
Transmission charges, taxes, and other charges also went down by P0.0808 per kWh and P0.1106 per kWh respectively.
