The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act is now in effect after President Rodrigo Duterte signed the law on April 12.
A copy of the new law was released on Thursday.
Republic Act 11285 aims to implement energy efficiency and saving plans and the promotion of the development and use of renewable energy.
Under the new law, the Department of Energy (DOE) will provide a labeling system for products, devices, and equipment, as well as energy efficiency rating.
An Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee will also be created to evaluate and approve energy efficiency programs, as well as provide direction in the implementation of the Government Energy Management Program.
Rules and regulations will be crafted within the six months of the law’s implementation.
