The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has completed the upgrade of its Calamba 230 kV–115 kV Delivery Point Substation, thus enhancing power reliability and stability in parts of Laguna and Batangas amid ever-growing electricity demand from commercial and industrial customers.
The project involved the installation of a third 300-megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer, along with new 115 kV and 230 kV gas circuit breakers and protection and control panels to strengthen the substation’s capacity.
Meralco said the upgrade is part of its continuing investments in power infrastructure modernization to ensure stable and high-quality electricity service across its franchise areas.
The enhanced substation will support the increasing power requirements of major establishments. These include SM City Calamba, SM City Sto. Tomas, Mariwasa-Siam Ceramics Inc., Calamba Doctor’s Hospital, Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata Inc., STMicroelectronics Inc., and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corporation, as well as neighboring communities.
The company emphasized that its system upgrades are aligned with its goal of meeting growing regional energy needs while maintaining operational efficiency and reliability for customers.
