The National Electrification Administration (NEA) and the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ORMECO, Inc.) have recently joined forces for a meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, combining a mangrove planting activity with a coastal clean-up drive. Held in Barangay Tacligan, San Teodoro, Oriental Mindoro, the event supports both organizations’ commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

Under the theme “Liwanag at Buhay: Sama-samang Pagkilos Tungo sa Mas Maliwanag at Mas Luntiang Kinabukasan, the initiative brought together 53 NEA delegates and 60 ORMECO employees. Together, they planted 330 mangrove seedlings along the coastal area, contributing to the preservation of the region’s ecosystem while aligning with the government’s mandate to promote sustainable environmental practices.

The joint effort not only aimed to bolster the local mangrove population—crucial for coastal protection and biodiversity—but also included a clean-up drive to remove litter and debris from the area. Mangroves play a vital role in mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon, preventing erosion, and serving as natural barriers against storms, making this initiative a timely response to growing environmental challenges.
