Basic Energy Corporation (BSC), a publicly listed Philippine energy company with interests in renewable energy, electric mobility, and other energy ventures, is expanding its presence across the power value chain after securing a Retail Electricity Supplier (RES) license for its wholly owned subsidiary while also moving its planned battery energy storage projects in Negros Occidental closer to grid connection.

In separate disclosures on Thursday, the firm said its wholly owned subsidiary, Basic Renewable Energy Solutions Corporation (BRESC), has obtained a five-year Retail Electricity Supplier (RES) license from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), allowing it to enter the competitive retail electricity market.

“The grant of the RES License is an important step in Basic Energy’s plan to develop its Retail Electricity Supply business. This adds to the Corporation’s existing generation and electric mobility businesses and brings BSC closer to building a complete renewable and sustainable energy business,” the company said.

BSC said it is now preparing the operational plan for the retail supply business and will provide further disclosures once there are more definite and material developments.

In a separate disclosure, the company also announced it had received an endorsement from the Department of Energy (DOE) for the System Impact Study (SIS) covering its planned Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Cadiz and San Carlos, Negros Occidental.

The DOE endorsement authorizes the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to conduct the SIS, a required technical and regulatory assessment that evaluates whether the transmission network can safely and reliably accommodate new facilities.

“This endorsement is an important step in BSC’s expansion into technology that supports the grid. Both BESS projects are designed to provide frequency and voltage regulation, which will help support grid stability and the integration of more renewable energy into the national grid,” the company said.

BSC said it is finalizing the requirements needed to begin the SIS process with NGCP and will disclose further material developments as they arise.
