The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is seeking support from its stakeholders and Negros Oriental government officials to expedite the completion of the Amlan-Dumaguete 138 kiloVolt (kV) line.
“NGCP is working with the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental, local distribution utilities, and local stakeholders to complete and energize this line as soon as possible,” NGCP said.
In a statement, the system operator (SO) said that this project would help mitigate possible power interruptions due to the overloading of the Amlan-Siaton 69kV line.
The Amlan-Siaton line, which supplies power to both Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City, has exceeded its 58 MW standard capacity, exceeding to 69 MW, as of April 2024. If the project falls short of completion, this overloading may result in rotational power interruptions and a decline in the manual load.
NGCP aimed to complete the project by September 2024, but due to local opposition, the SO requested an extension of the completion date to January 2026.
The Amlan-Dumaguete line will not only support the Amlan-Siaton line but also address low-voltage incidents and cushion the prolonged and recurring power interruptions in the area.
Additionally, it will meet the needs of the increasing power demand in Dumaguete City and the province of Negros Oriental.
