SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) has begun with the development of the world’s largest solar project in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija, named Terra Solar.
In a report by the Philippine Star, SPNEC said that the site, spanning almost 3,500 hectares, was already being cleared, with its first phase expected to begin by the first quarter of 2026.
The project consists of 3,500 megawatts (MW) worth of solar panel and battery storage, offering 4,000 megawatt-hours (MWh), valued at around Php 200 billion.
More than five billion kilowatt hours (kWh) a year, or roughly 12% of the country’s overall demand, is predicted to come from it. It is also expected to surpass the 1.5 gigawatts (GW) capacity of all solar projects connected to the grid.
According to SPNEC, to complete the project within the designated timeline, it has already expedited the clearance of project sites before building the facilities that would connect it to the national grid and installing more than five million solar panels.
Terra Solar, which took over more than 3,000 hectares of land, is envisioned to be larger than China’s Golmud Solar Park and India’s Bhadla Solar Park, which are currently the world’s largest solar farms that offer a capacity of 2.2 GW.
Terra Solar Philippines, a 100% owned subsidiary of SPNEC, will be the owner of Terra Solar.
