To ensure the smooth incorporation of increased renewable energy capacity into the power grid, the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) aim to achieve the completion of a smart and green grid plan by the end of the year, and hopefully be ready for publication early 2024.
In a report by the Philippine Star, DOE Director for Energy Policy and Planning Bureau Michael Sinocruz said that the formulation of the smart and green grid plan is a collaboration between the two departments in the transmission sector.
They also seek to check particular locations to assess whether additional infrastructure or transmission enhancements will be needed to accommodate increased renewable energy capacity.
Under this strategic transmission plan, NGCP will formulate an implementation plan to identify specific areas for offshore wind and other renewable resources. Additionally, the creation of a transmission requirements timeline for extended renewable energy inclusion.
Earlier. the DOE said it strives to boost the development of the Philippine renewable energy sector.
