Basic Energy Corporation (BSC) has successfully reached a major milestone in the development of its Mabini Wind Power Project as its subsidiary, RDG Wind Energy Corporation (RWEC), completed its Wind Resource Assessment (WRA), securing a comprehensive, bankable report along with an Annual Energy Production (AEP) analysis and wind turbine generator (WTG) micrositing study from international consultants.
In a regulatory filing, this achievement came after the firm completed wind data collection in May 2024, using a combination of a 120-meter met mast and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology.
The data gathered from these advanced methods has provided accurate and reliable insights into wind conditions at the Mabini, Batangas site.
The Mabini Wind Energy Project covers a 4,860-hectare land area in the Mabini Peninsula and has the potential to generate up to 50 MW of renewable energy, with the project expected to be completed and commissioned by early 2028.
The WRA results revealed excellent wind conditions, supporting the development of a wind power plant with an initial capacity of 50 megawatts (MW). This capacity is expected to generate approximately 250 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of energy annually, using the latest wind turbine technology.
The micrositing study also uncovered substantial opportunities for future capacity development at the Mabini site, highlighting the project’s long-term expansion opportunities.
In addition, RWEC has received approval for its System Impact Study (SIS) from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), allowing the project to proceed with plans for grid interconnection and power delivery.
The Mabini Wind Energy Project holds an active Wind Energy Service Contract with the Department of Energy (DOE), and RWEC is now conducting feasibility studies and preliminary engineering work to move the project forward.
As the Mabini Wind Power Project progresses, it promises to play a key role in the Philippines’ renewable energy future, contributing clean power to the grid and supporting sustainable energy goals.
