Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) has joined in preparations for the 2025 midterm elections to ensure stable and uninterrupted electricity service on election day, May 12, 2025.
In a statement, MERALCO said that for the upcoming elections, it will deploy generator sets and floodlights to strategic locations, further complementing the readiness of its personnel, who will be on standby 24/7 throughout the election process.
MERALCO participated in the 2025 mock elections organized by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to simulate potential power service issues that could arise during the election period.
Additionally, MERALCO crews and personnel tested their quick-response measures to possible power disruptions, including downed power lines, loadside trouble, and fire-related outages. One of the key exercises involved responding to a downed power line report at a polling precinct in Makati High School.
The distribution utility (DU) firm has been working closely with COMELEC since November 2024, emphasizing the crucial role electricity plays in ensuring the smooth and efficient conduct of the elections.
The company’s preparations are vital to maintaining a seamless voting process, as any power interruptions could potentially disrupt election activities and voter turnout.
By prioritizing reliable electricity service, MERALCO aims to mitigate risks that could affect the elections, ensuring that polling precincts, vote counting machines, and communication systems operate smoothly and without delay.
