ERC Launches Recruitment Drive with 105 New Positions to Bolster Workforce

To enhance its regulatory capacity, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has opened 105 new positions with approval from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). These newly created roles, encompassing both regular and contractual positions, aim to strengthen the Commission’s ability to regulate the energy sector and meet its expanding mandates.”

Recognizing the growing scope and complexity of the Commission’s duties, the DBM approved the addition of five regular and 100 contractual positions to add to the ERC’s roster. In a letter dated March 2025, DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman highlighted the importance of these roles, describing them as “vital in the effective and efficient delivery of services of the Commission, particularly in regulating and maintaining the country’s electric power industry.”

“In this regard, we are pleased to inform you of the favorable consideration of the creation of the following 105 additional positions in the ERC (five regular and 100 contractual items) to fortify the Commission’s organizational structure and manpower complement, as well as to have the necessary additional staff who will support the effective and efficient undertaking of its vital and core functions, initiatives, and activities,” Pangandaman stated.

The ERC said the move addressed long-standing staff shortages which have hindered the timely completion of regulatory processes and delayed progress toward strategic objectives. Of the 105 positions, 100 contractual roles will be allocated across critical services, including the Legal Service (LS), Market Operations Service (MOS), and Regulatory Operations Service (ROS). The remaining five positions will support the Financial and Administrative Service (FAS) and the Planning and Public Information Service (PPIS).

To accelerate its hiring process, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) granted ERC the authority to hire staff during the election period. This allows the agency to fill both existing vacancies and new positions, subject to specific conditions.

ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Monalisa C. Dimalanta welcomed the DBM’s approval, calling it a timely boost to the Commission’s operational capacity.

“We are grateful for the DBM’s continued support in strengthening the ERC’s personnel capacity. The additional positions will help us address longstanding backlogs and fast-track regulatory processes that are critical to unlocking more projects for the energy sector. With more hands on deck, the Commission can move with more agility and efficiency and create a more responsive regulatory environment that supports the country’s energy democracy goals, investments, and innovation,” Dimalanta said.

The opening job positions and their details will be posted through the ERC’s official social platforms in the coming days.
