A groundbreaking collaboration between energy sector leaders and military healthcare has birthed the Bagong Bayaning Mandirigma Casualty Care Center (BBM CCC) at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center, V. Luna General Hospital. Spearheaded by One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), this initiative showcases how energy industry stakeholders can drive transformative social impact beyond their core operations.

The BBM CCC offers world-class medical services to Filipino soldiers wounded in action. Equipped with a minor operating room, trauma and wound care center, and patient wards, the facility can serve approximately 405 patients monthly. Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (MIESCOR) Logistics provided essential renovation and construction support.

Present at the inauguration were Meralco Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan alongside House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, CSFI President Rosemary “Baby” Arenas, and CSFI Chairperson Tingog Partylist Representative Yedda K. Romualdez,

“This is a step forward in ensuring intangible commitment to our men and women in uniform, especially those injured. This casualty care center stands as a symbol of cooperation between the public and private sectors,” said Pangilinan.

The center is the first phase of a broader project, the Bagong Bayaning Mandirigma Casualty and Cancer Care Center, with the Cancer Care Center slated for completion by mid-2025. Supported by the MVP-led Makati Medical Center Foundation, the initiative sets a new benchmark for military healthcare.

Brigadier General Jonna D. Dalaguit, Commander of the AFP Medical Center, emphasized, “The BBM CCC is a reminder of what collaboration can do to safeguard those who put their lives on the line to serve the country.”

OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao highlighted the center’s significance: “Our mission to spread light and hope includes those who also bring us security and peace in times of uncertainties. These brave men and women put everything in the line for every Filipino, and it is only fitting that they receive the best medical care possible as our way of ‘pagmamalasakit’ to our modern-day heroes.”

The project, a partnership with the Congressional Spouses Foundation, Inc. (CSFI), PLDT-Smart Foundation, and Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, underscores the energy sector’s role in addressing critical societal needs. House Speaker Romualdez noted, “With the advanced medical care and specialized support for cancer patients, this center’s lifeline ensures that those who stand in the frontlines are not left behind when they face personal battles.”
