ERC Shortlists 182 Applicants for 64 Contractual Posts, Calls for More Legal Experts

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is fast-tracking its hiring process after receiving 298 applications for 64 contractual positions, as it moves to address long-standing staffing gaps and enhance its regulatory capacity.

As of May 2025, the Commission has shortlisted 182 candidates from the initial applicant pool. These positions are part of the 105 contractual roles approved by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to support ERC’s operational and technical requirements.

“We are carefully going through each application because it is important to have the right people on board,” said ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Monalisa C. Dimalanta. “The energy sector deserves a stronger, more capable team at the ERC that can effectively deliver on our promise of fair and transparent energy regulation.”

To further strengthen its legal capacity, the ERC has also opened 22 Attorney III positions under its Legal Service (LS) and Regulatory Operations Service (ROS). The agency is calling on qualified lawyers and legal professionals in the energy sector to apply.

The additional legal positions are intended to bolster the Commission’s ability to address complex regulatory issues, improve case resolution timelines, and enforce compliance across the power sector. These roles are part of ERC’s broader organizational reform aimed at building a more responsive and technically capable institution.

The overwhelming response to the April 2025 hiring call signals growing interest in public service within the energy sector. However, the Commission emphasized that the evaluation process remains highly competitive and will be based on merit, alignment with institutional values, and performance standards.

“We’re not just hiring to fill positions—we’re hiring to strengthen the institution,” Dimalanta said. “We are looking for people who want to contribute meaningfully to public service and sectoral reform.”

The ERC encourages interested applicants, especially lawyers, to follow its official website and social media channels for updates on job openings and application requirements.
