Meralco’s MPower Renews Electricity Pact with Gokongwei Group

The Gokongwei Group has renewed and expanded its retail electricity supply agreement with MPower, the local retail electricity supply unit of Manila Electric Company (Meralco). This reinforces a more than a decade-long partnership aimed at powering major operations across Luzon with a significant share of renewable energy.

The renewed contract now includes a wider range of Gokongwei Group companies under its flagship conglomerate JG Summit Holdings, Inc., such as: Robinsons Land Corporation, Cebu Pacific, Universal Robina Corporation, JG Summit Olefins Corporation, and RL Commercial REIT, Inc. Robinsons Supermarket Corporation, a subsidiary of Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc.

The agreement ensures that these key operations will continue to benefit from reliable, competitive, and increasingly sustainable electricity supply. According to JG Summit President and CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei, the partnership enables the group to integrate a 60% renewable energy solution into its operations.

“This agreement goes beyond securing a reliable power supply – it represents our collective commitment to sustainability and innovation,” Gokongwei said, emphasizing the group’s goal of reducing its environmental impact while serving communities.

Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan showcased the depth of the two groups’ collaboration since MPower began supplying electricity to Gokongwei Group companies in 2013. “Our two groups have shared more than just business interests over the years—we’ve shared a deep commitment to nation-building, innovation, and service to the Filipino people,” he said. “This partnership reflects that shared purpose as we work together to empower communities and contribute to a stronger, more sustainable Philippines.”

MPower currently supplies electricity to contestable customers within Meralco’s franchise area and holds over 25% of the retail electricity market in that zone. The company is also actively growing the share of renewables in its portfolio to meet the rising demand for cleaner energy solutions among corporate clients.

The deal marks a significant step in the Gokongwei Group’s broader sustainability agenda while further cementing MPower’s role as a leading retail electricity supplier in the country.
