The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has placed its crews on heightened alert as Tropical Storm Ramil (international name: Fengshen) continues to sweep across parts of Luzon, bringing strong winds and heavy rains within its franchise area.

With tropical cyclone wind signals raised in several provinces, Meralco said it is closely monitoring the weather situation and ensuring quick response to any power interruptions or safety issues.

“Our crews and personnel are strategically positioned and remain on standby 24/7 to address any power-related issues. We urge our customers to prioritize safety and stay alert, especially in areas prone to flooding,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.

The power distributor also issued reminders for customers to observe electrical safety measures during the storm, particularly in flood-prone areas. These include switching off the main power or circuit breaker, unplugging appliances, cleaning mud and debris from electrical equipment using rubber gloves and shoes, and ensuring all devices and outlets are completely dry before use. Meralco also advised customers to have wiring systems inspected by licensed electricians before turning power back on.

Meralco assured that customers can easily report electricity service concerns through the My Meralco app, official social media channels on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), or by texting 0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211. The Meralco Hotline 16211 also remains open for assistance.

As Tropical Storm Ramil moves across Luzon, Meralco emphasized that safety remains its top priority for both customers and field personnel.
