Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) reported today that its power generation units in Cebu and Panay largely remained stable through Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi), ensuring continued supply support for the Visayas grid despite widespread weather-related disruptions.
In a statement, MGEN said all employees across affected sites have been confirmed safe and accounted for following the typhoon’s onslaught.
“MGEN expresses its solidarity with communities in Visayas affected by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi), particularly in Cebu and Panay where strong winds and heavy rainfall caused significant disruption,” the company said.
The company’s Cebu-based facilities—Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC) with three generating units and Toledo Power Co. (TPC) with one unit—remained largely operational. A single TPC unit experienced a trip at 7:38AM on November 4 but was resynchronized to the grid by 8:37 p.m. the same day in coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In Panay, MGEN’s Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) in Iloilo and Panay Power Corporation (PPC) in Aklan kept all five generating units running through the storm. Initial assessments showed no major damage to plant infrastructure, with only minor corrective work required to maintain full operational readiness.
“The safety and well-being of MGEN personnel continue to be the company’s priority,” MGEN emphasized, noting that assistance has been extended to team members affected by the weather disturbance.
MGEN reaffirmed its commitment to reliable power delivery and coordination with the NGCP, government agencies, and other stakeholders to sustain system stability and reinforce critical energy infrastructure during recovery efforts.
“As communities rebuild, MGEN stands in solidarity with areas affected by Typhoon Tino and reaffirms its role in supporting the country’s energy system through resilience, preparedness, and operational discipline,” the company said.
MGEN, the power generation arm of Meralco, operates a diversified portfolio across thermal, gas, and renewable energy. Its Visayas assets—CEDC, TPC, PEDC, and PPC—form a key part of the region’s baseload supply, supporting economic activity and grid stability.
