The Meralco Power Academy (MPA) has expanded its reach in the Visayas region by signing new academic partnerships with two major Cebu universities to enhance engineering education and better prepare students for the evolving energy sector. The agreements were formalized with the University of San Carlos (USC) and Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT University).
Signed on October 27, the USC partnership includes joint training programs, research collaborations aligned with energy and sustainability goals, and industry immersion activities. USC President Fr. Francisco Antonio T. Estepa said the alliance combines academic rigor with industry experience. “This alliance is more than an agreement; it is a shared investment in innovation, energy security, and the overall sustainable development of our nation,” he said.

MPA formalized its agreement with CIT University on October 24. The collaboration will provide workshops, knowledge-sharing programs, and practical industry exposure to help engineering students meet the demands of the modern energy landscape. These programs aim to ensure graduates are equipped with technical skills and industry-ready competencies.
MPA Executive Director Ian Chester Colorina said the partnerships showcase the Academy’s commitment to developing future engineering talent in the region. “By working closely with leading academic institutions, we aim to provide students with hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for the evolving demands of the energy sector,” he said.
With these initiatives, MPA continues its expansion across the country as it supports innovation, technical excellence, and the development of industry-ready professionals.
How might these strengthened academic-industry partnerships help shape the next generation of energy engineers in the Visayas?
