AboitizPower, through Luzon Cleanergy Generation, Inc., is advancing a proposed 132.8-megawatt (MW) wind power project in Bangui, Ilocos Norte.
The company confirmed that Luzon Cleanergy has made submissions to offices under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the proposed wind project.
AboitizPower said the project is currently under active development and is undergoing standard environmental impact assessment processes with the project’s final parameters, costs, values, and configuration still subject to finalization and appropriate corporate approvals as development progresses.
The proposed wind project is estimated to cost PHP 8.44 billion and would deploy 17 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 8 MW and spanning across eight municipalities in Ilocos Norte.
The project’s renewable energy service contract covers 3,321 hectares, of which 656.96 hectares are expected to be developed.
An environmental impact assessment is a regulatory process that evaluates a project’s possible effects on surrounding communities, land, and ecosystems before full development proceeds.
The proposed project is intended to help augment demand for reliable and affordable power supply while contributing to national development.
Luzon Cleanergy Generation, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of AboitizPower through Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. (ARI).
ARI serves as AboitizPower’s investment arm for its renewable energy portfolio, which includes geothermal, large hydro, run-of-river hydro, wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects.
AboitizPower said its subsidiaries and joint ventures regularly evaluate strategic opportunities in the ordinary course of business.
The company said it will make the required disclosures in the event of any material and concrete developments.
How could new wind projects in Northern Luzon support the country’s renewable energy expansion once they move past development and permitting?
