Isla LPG opens Leganes plant to boost Western Visayas supply security

Isla LPG Corporation has inaugurated its new Leganes Plant in Iloilo, which the Department of Energy (DOE) said will strengthen liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply security in Panay Island and Western Visayas.

The DOE said the facility expands the country’s regional energy infrastructure and supports efforts to ensure a reliable and resilient LPG supply for Filipino consumers.

Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin served as keynote speaker during the inauguration ceremony in Barangay Bigke, Leganes, together with Isla LPG Corporation Chief Executive Officer Tomoaki Asai, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Congresswoman Kathryn Gorriceta, Leganes Mayor Junjun Jaen, as well as other national and local government officials.

Built on a 5.4-hectare coastal site, the Isla Leganes Plant has a storage capacity of 1,400 metric tons of LPG. The facility is equipped with a truck filling gantry, an LPG cylinder refilling carousel, a truck weighbridge, and firefighting and safety systems.

It is designed to receive, store, and distribute LPG to meet the growing energy requirements of the region, enabling faster and more reliable deliveries to households, small businesses, and eateries across Panay Island and nearby areas.

“On behalf of the Department of Energy, I extend our warmest congratulations to the leadership of Isla LPG Corporation. Today’s celebration reflects the company’s continued thrust in the country’s energy sector and our shared commitment to providing reliable and accessible energy for every Filipino household and businesses,” Garin said.

Garin also said the facility comes as global energy markets continue to face uncertainty due to geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, highlighting the need to strengthen domestic energy infrastructure and improve supply resilience.

“This facility is one answer—bringing more storage, cylinder filling, and distribution capacity closer to home for Panay and Western Visayas. It means households, karenderyas, and businesses across the region can count on their LPG being available when they need it,” she explained.

The DOE said investments such as the Isla Leganes Plant can benefit consumers by improving supply reliability, strengthening regional distribution networks, and enhancing the country’s ability to respond to temporary supply disruptions or supply crunches caused by geopolitical conflicts and other external shocks.

Garin also commended Isla LPG Corporation for developing the facility in accordance with recognized engineering, safety, and regulatory standards. She said safety remains a fundamental responsibility across the LPG value chain and is essential to protecting consumers, workers, and surrounding communities.

The DOE said the plant supports efforts to strengthen and regionalize the country’s energy infrastructure by expanding storage and distribution capacity outside traditional supply hubs.
