PLDT and Smart expand nationwide energy audits to boost network efficiency

PLDT and Smart have expanded their nationwide energy management audit program to improve the efficiency and reliability of critical network facilities. The companies recently held audit sessions in Pampanga and Batangas and will continue assessments across the Visayas and Mindanao regions in the coming weeks.

The program reviews the performance of major network equipment, cooling systems, and overall site layout to identify improvements that can reduce energy use and support operational stability. The sessions also serve as training for field personnel on proper energy management and best practices.

PLDT Vice President for Asset Management and Energy Group Alvin R. Ilano said the program is crucial because network facilities account for a significant share of the company’s resource consumption. “Sustaining an efficient network is critical to delivering reliable services to our customers,” he said.

Chief Sustainability Officer Melissa Vergel de Dios added that the initiative supports PLDT Group’s broader sustainability goals. “As we continue to optimize our energy consumption, we are not only improving our operations but also reducing our emissions footprint,” she said.

The audit program forms part of PLDT and Smart’s efforts to align their energy management system with international standards and meet the Group’s target of reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030.

How can large-scale network operators further strengthen energy efficiency programs to support both operational needs and sustainability goals?
