Repower Energy Development Corporation (REDC), through its wholly owned subsidiary Cabanglasan Hydropower Corporation, announced today that it has officially inaugurated its 18.2-megawatt (MW) Pulangi Hydropower Plant at the border of Valencia City and San Fernando town in Bukidnon, marking the company’s first operational project in Mindanao.
The run-of-river facility is REDC’s ninth operating hydropower plant nationwide and is expected to generate an average of 130 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. With a reported project cost of PHP 4 billion, the plant adds new renewable capacity to the Mindanao grid, which continues to balance growing power demand and system reliability concerns.
Department of Energy (DOE) sources say the Pulangi project is among the first hydropower plants eligible for the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) Feed-in Tariff Round 4 (FIT-4), with a preliminary rate of PHP 6.38 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). If confirmed, this would place the project among early beneficiaries of the government’s latest incentive round for renewable energy developers.
“The commissioning of the Pulangi Hydropower Plant underscores our commitment to creating reliable, sustainable, and community-aligned energy projects,” REDC President Eric Y. Roxas said. “Hydropower continues to play a vital role in securing the country’s clean energy future, and we are proud to help strengthen Mindanao’s renewable energy infrastructure.”
The inauguration was attended by officials from REDC, the DOE, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM), and partner firms.
What impact will new FIT-eligible hydropower projects like Pulangi have on electricity prices, grid stability, and future RE investments in Mindanao? Let’s discuss.
