Cebu landslide forces halt at Prime Waste Solutions facility

A landslide struck a waste management facility in Barangay Binaliw, Cebu City on Thursday afternoon, forcing a suspension of operations and prompting coordination between the operator and government authorities, according to Prime Waste Solutions Cebu.

The company said the landslide occurred at around 4PM on January 8 at its Binaliw facility. While Prime Waste did not disclose details on injuries or the extent of damage, it said response efforts are underway with public sector partners.

“We are working closely with relevant government agencies and the local government,” the company said, adding that assistance is being extended to those affected by the incident.

Operations at the facility have been temporarily stopped as safety assessments continue. Prime “The safety and well-being of our employees, contractors, and neighboring communities remain our top priority,” Prime Waste said in an official statement.

The company also warned the public against approaching the site, citing ongoing risks in the affected area. “We appeal to the public to refrain from going near the affected area,” it said.

Prime Waste said it will release further updates as more information becomes available.
