Lawson Philippines is set to transition its operations to 100% renewable energy through a retail electricity supply partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), supporting both its corporate sustainability goals and the Philippines’ broader clean energy targets.
The shift will initially cover 25 Lawson convenience stores across Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite, and Bulacan, with rollout beginning at the end of May under the government-led Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
RAP allows multiple electricity consumers to aggregate their demand and directly negotiate supply contracts with licensed retail electricity suppliers, all of which are operating under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework.
Miguel de Jesus, chief operating officer for Philippine operations of ACEN, said the partnership demonstrates how businesses can support the country’s renewable energy goals.
“By choosing renewables, Lawson is enabling companies like ACEN to make a significant contribution to the target of the Philippines to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix,” de Jesus said.
The initiative is also expected to help Lawson reduce electricity costs while also advancing environmental awareness across its operations.
Yasuhiro Sato, president of Lawson Philippines, said the shift aligns with the company’s long-term sustainability strategy.
“This partnership… will contribute to reducing energy costs at our stores and will also provide an opportunity to raise awareness among Filipinos about the importance of the environment,” Sato said.
Lawson Philippines’ transition is part of its broader sustainability goals, which include reducing CO2 emissions per store by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2013 levels) and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
