Fuel rollback possible next week, DOE says

Fuel prices may see a rollback next week, but the Department of Energy cautioned that final adjustments will still depend on the full five-day trading average and possible late-week market swings.
In a briefing today at Malacanang, DOE Secretary Sharon Garin said the preliminary trend points to a potential price cut, although volatility in global oil markets could still shift the outcome before final computation is completed.
“Kung ‘yong trend lang on base on the four days may rollback siya. Pero kung may mangyari ngayon at baka mag-spike ulit [based on] the average of the last five days, ‘yon po ‘yong adjustment ng add or minus sa presyo ng last Tuesday,” she said, adding that the DOE will make an announcement tomorrow.
(“If we just look at the trend based on the four days, there would be a rollback. But if something happens today and prices spike again, it could change [based on] the average of the last five days. That’s where the adjustment—whether added or deducted—is based on last Tuesday’s price.”)
Garin said the Department of Energy is aiming to finalize and announce the adjustment by tomorrow once complete pricing inputs are processed.
“We’re hoping and praying for a rollback,” the DOE chief said, reiterating that the final direction remains uncertain until end-of-week market data is fully reflected.
Garin noted additional support measures for the transport sector are being coordinated with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), including subsidy interventions intended to cushion the impact of fuel costs on public utility drivers.
The statement comes as global oil benchmarks continue to fluctuate, with earlier trading in the Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) showing softer refined product prices—particularly for diesel and gasoline—driven by easing geopolitical risk sentiment and weaker crude benchmarks.
Oil firms are expected to announce next week’s final pump price adjustments after the computation window closes.
With rollback signals emerging but global volatility still in play, do you expect Philippine fuel prices to sustain downward momentum next week—or are we likely to see another reversal?
