DOE, PNOC lock in 21,000 MT U.S. LPG cargo for May delivery

The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) have secured 21,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sourced from the United States, in a move aimed at reinforcing domestic supply and cushioning the country against volatility in global fuel markets.

The shipment is scheduled to arrive between May 20 and 31, 2026 and will be discharged in Batangas. Authorities expect the additional cargo to strengthen supply buffers and support continued stability in the domestic LPG market.

During a briefing today, the DOE reported that as of April 17, national LPG inventory stood at 40.26 days of supply—up by around four days from the previous week. The agency said the incoming cargo will further improve availability as part of broader efforts to ensure consistent access to essential fuel products.

“Ensuring a stable and reliable supply of LPG is central to our responsibility to protect the welfare of every Filipino—from households that depend on it for their daily meals, to small businesses that keep our communities running,” said Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin. “The government is strengthening LPG supply and taking proactive steps to support stability amid global volatility.”

The DOE said it remains in close coordination with relevant government agencies and industry stakeholders to monitor inventory levels, market movements, and logistics conditions, and to deploy measures needed to maintain supply stability nationwide.

How significant is this additional LPG cargo in strengthening the Philippines’ supply security amid persistent global market volatility?
