Vivant Energy buys 200-MW Northern Samar wind project

Vivant Energy Corporation has acquired full ownership of a planned 200-megawatt (MW) wind power project in Northern Samar, adding a major renewable energy asset to its pipeline as it pursues its clean energy expansion targets.

In a statement on Tuesday, Vivant Energy said its renewable energy subsidiary, Vivant Renewable Energy Corporation (VREC), completed the acquisition of a 100% stake in Samar Philippines Renewable Corporation (SPRC) from Envision Energy Philippines Corporation.

SPRC is developing a 200-MW wind farm covering the municipalities of Lavezares, Allen, Victoria, and Rosario in Northern Samar. The project is targeted for completion and grid integration by the end of 2028.

The acquisition strengthens Vivant Energy’s position in the country’s growing wind power sector and adds another utility-scale renewable energy project to its development portfolio.

Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate about 695 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, enough to supply power to more than 190,000 households. The project is also projected to avoid around 487,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

The project has already secured market support, with 36% of its capacity awarded under the Department of Energy’s fourth Green Energy Auction Program (GEA-4). The remaining capacity is expected to be covered through an offtake agreement with a Retail Electricity Supplier.

The deal supports Vivant’s “30 by 30” strategy, which aims to expand the share of renewable energy in its portfolio as demand for cleaner power sources continues to grow.

As the original developer of the project, Envision Energy Philippines will remain involved as a project development partner. The company said it will continue providing turbine technology expertise, engineering support, and development services as the project advances toward construction and commercial operations.

“For an archipelagic country like the Philippines, energy security depends on a power mix that is both diverse and deliberate. Wind belongs in places where the resource is strong, strategic, and efficient. In Northern Samar, Vivant Energy sees an opportunity to add greener capacity where it can support a more resilient energy portfolio and contribute to the country’s long-term energy stability,” Vivant Energy said.
