Globe Telecom has secured a supply agreement with First Gen Group to power select facilities in Mindanao and Caloocan City using geothermal and hydropower, as it expands sourcing of locally generated renewable energy for its operations.
Under the agreement, three Globe facilities in Mindanao will run on geothermal energy, while its Caloocan site will be supplied with hydropower. The company said the arrangement reduces exposure to imported fuel price volatility and supports more stable energy sourcing for its network operations.
Geothermal provides continuous baseload power, while hydropower adds another indigenous renewable source for around-the-clock telecom infrastructure requirements.
The supply arrangement is enabled through the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allow large qualified electricity consumers to source power directly from qualified suppliers.

“As demand for connectivity grows, how we power our network matters just as much as how we build it,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe. “Shifting to local renewable energy allows us to operate more responsibly while ensuring we remain reliable for the people and communities we serve.”
Globe said the procurement shift contributes to efforts to increase renewable energy in the national power mix and diversify its energy sources for network operations.
The company also said it is implementing efficiency measures in remaining non-renewable-dependent facilities, including Dynamic Load Management for generator sets supporting remote sites and backup power.
Earlier in March, Globe participated in Earth Hour on March 28, 2026, switching off non-essential lighting and appliances across its facilities as part of its energy conservation efforts.
