DOE receives COA’s highest audit opinion for 2025

The Department of Energy (DOE) has received an Unmodified Audit Opinion from the Commission on Audit (COA) for its Calendar Year 2025 financial statements, the highest audit opinion COA may issue on an agency’s financial reports.

The DOE said the audit result affirms that its financial statements were fairly presented, in all material respects, in accordance with applicable government accounting standards.

An Unmodified Audit Opinion means COA found that the agency’s financial statements were fairly presented based on government accounting rules. The DOE said the result reflects its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound public financial management.

The department said the audit opinion also highlights its efforts to strengthen internal controls, improve financial management practices, and ensure the prudent and responsible use of public resources.

“Receiving an Unmodified Audit Opinion affirms our commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of public resources,” Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said.

Garin said the recognition reflects the collective dedication of DOE personnel to uphold standards of public service as the agency pursues reforms and initiatives tied to the country’s energy security.

“As we pursue reforms and initiatives that strengthen the country’s energy security, we remain committed to ensuring that every public resource entrusted to us is managed with integrity, prudence, and accountability,” she said.

The DOE said effective stewardship of public funds is essential to its mandate of helping ensure a secure, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy future for the country.

The department also thanked COA for its guidance and recommendations, which it said continue to support improvements in government systems, processes, and accountability mechanisms.
