Basic Energy Secures DOE Approval for Solar Facility in Bataan

Basic Energy to acquire equity investments in Thai EPC contractors

Basic Energy Corporation has taken a significant step toward expanding renewable energy in the Philippines. The company announced that it has received a Certificate of Authority (COA) from the Department of Energy (DOE) for its Mariveles Solar Power Project in Bataan.

The COA, granted under the revised Omnibus Guidelines Governing the Award and Administration of Renewable Energy Contracts (effective June 2024), gives Basic Energy Corporation the authority to begin securing necessary permits and conducting procurement activities. This milestone moves the company closer to establishing a 62-megawatt peak (MWp) solar power facility spanning approximately 72 hectares in Mariveles, Bataan.

“We are excited to advance the development of the Mariveles Solar Power Project and remain committed to providing updates as the project progresses,” Basic Energy Corporation stated in the release.

The COA is a crucial step for the company to initiate the next phases of the project, including securing approvals from national agencies and local government units. Additionally, Basic Energy will conduct a System Impact Study in collaboration with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to ensure grid compatibility and efficiency.

The Mariveles Solar Power Project aligns with the Philippine government’s broader push for renewable energy and aims to contribute to the country’s sustainable energy goals. The 62 MWp output could significantly enhance the local power supply and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Basic Energy’s latest milestone follows its December 4, 2024, disclosure, where the company first revealed the Board of Directors’ approval for applying for the Solar Energy Operating Contract (SEOC). With the COA now secured, the company is positioned to accelerate the project’s timeline.

Basic Energy Corporation’s commitment to renewable energy underscores the increasing role of private enterprises in meeting the nation’s energy demands sustainably.
