The Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized 27 out of 360 government and private sector entities for their successful implementation of energy efficiency and conservation programs during the recently concluded 2023 Energy Efficiency Excellence (EEE).
These 27 entities, encompassing commercial, industrial, and government establishments, collectively achieved more than 20,000 megawatts (MW) of energy savings, prevented 14,000 tons of CO2 emissions, and saved Php 170 million.
“We, therefore, laud all the participants, with special mention to these 27 entities for their exceptional efforts in making energy efficiency and conservation an enduring part of their business culture and a way of life,” said Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla.
The EEE Awards serve as incentives for organizations and establishments that have shown unwavering commitment to conservation and demonstrated the best practices in energy efficiency.
Lotilla emphasized that the adoption of energy efficiency and conservation is crucial in addressing today’s energy challenges, offering the potential to alleviate concerns related to affordability and energy security. The draft 2023-2050 Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) sought to attain a 10% reduction in energy consumption for oil products and electricity from 2040 to 2050.
The energy secretary also pointed out that, despite the institutionalization of energy efficiency practices through the Energy Conservation Act, the DOE remains committed to refining its current policies. This is to ensure alignment with the rapidly evolving innovations and technologies associated with energy efficiency and conservation standards.
In the upcoming weeks, the DOE is set to unveil policies that will redefine the classification of Designated Establishments within the Commercial, Industrial, and Transport sectors. This is to accurately measure the energy consumption of these sectors, alongside the authorization of energy auditors under the Government Energy Management Program.
