The Department of Energy (DOE) further intensifies its call to contribute to the acceleration of energy efficiency and conservation efforts especially with the ongoing El Niño.

“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appealed to Filipinos to conserve energy and create a culture of responsible usage of electricity as power supply projections may still change, even if we have adequate projection, due to extreme temperatures during the height of summer that will be exacerbated by El Niño,” said Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla.

Both households and the business sector are encouraged to apply energy conservation practices such as unplugging appliances during peak hours and opting to use light-emitting diode (LED) lights.

Applying energy efficiency measures would not only ease consumers with increasing electricity expenses but it would also increase electricity grid reliability.

Meanwhile, the energy secretary clarified that, during the Executive Committee (ExeCom) Meeting with the DOE-attached agencies, a decision was made to map out the country’s vital infrastructure to easily locate those that would be impacted by power supply restrictions and enable prompt interventions.

“As we face the challenging period where we would need the support of everyone, we must therefore be conscious in our use of electricity,” Lotilla stressed.
