First Gen Corporation’s subsidiary, First Gen Visayas Energy Inc. (FGVEI), has been sanctioned around Php 285,000 by the Department of Energy (DOE) due to the delayed submission of reports on its wind energy projects.
“First Gen Visayas Energy Inc. (FGVEI), a subsidiary of First Gen Corporation, was assessed by the Department of Energy (DOE) a total amount of Php 285,000.00 representing penalties for the late filing of quarterly financial reports pertaining to thirty-one (31) Wind Energy Service Contracts (WESC) in the pre-development stage,” the firm said.
According to the firm’s regulatory filing, the penalties arise from failure to submit the required reports on time. First Gen has yet to provide detailed information on the specific locations of its wind power projects.
The company previously announced an ambitious plan to develop 900 megawatts (MW) of wind energy across the country, with projects to be located in various provinces such as La Union, Bataan, Bohol, Iloilo, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay.
FGVEI must settle the fine within ten days but has requested further clarification from the government regarding the assessment basis before proceeding with the payment.
In October, FGVEI received approval from the DOE for a system impact study (SIS) concerning its 150-MW Onshore Wind Project in Antique. The SIS will evaluate the feasibility of integrating the new wind energy project into the national power grid, a critical step in expanding renewable energy capacity in the Philippines.
As a significant player in the renewable energy sector, First Gen currently operates 1,651 MW of capacity through its solar, hydro, and geothermal power plants.
The company also manages four natural gas plants, contributing to the country’s transition to cleaner energy. With a total combined capacity of 3,668 MW, First Gen continues to strengthen its position in the Philippine energy market.
