The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) re-emphasized its role in shaping inclusive and future-ready energy policies during the Energy Smart Forum 2025 organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) held on August 28.
ERC Executive Director Atty. Nancy Aurora Q. Fajardo, who represented the Commission at the event, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Policies and Regulations that will Define our Energy Future.” She highlighted the ERC’s ongoing efforts to modernize the regulatory framework, accelerate renewable energy adoption, and strengthen consumer protection.
“The energy revolution is already underway. But the path we choose today will determine whether it uplifts only a few, or empowers every Filipino household and community,” Fajardo said, stressing the need for policies that are both forward-looking and inclusive.
The forum gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and development partners to discuss potential pathways toward a more secure, sustainable, and consumer-responsive energy sector in the Philippines.
A panel discussion followed, featuring representatives from both the public and private sectors. Alongside the ERC, panelists included Dr. Marco Gemmer, Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines; Ms. Shreetama Choudhary, Senior Investment Officer of the International Finance Corporation; Mr. Carlos Aboitiz, Chief Corporate Services Officer of AboitizPower; and Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Mylene C. Capongcol. The session was moderated by Mr. Quintin Pastrana, President of WEnergy Power Pilipinas and Archipelago Renewables, and Head of Business Development at WEnergy Global.
The discussion focused on the policies, infrastructure, and market dynamics required to achieve the Philippines’ renewable energy targets by 2030. Panelists spotlighted the importance of close coordination among government agencies, industry players, and development partners in accelerating investments and building a sustainable and resilient energy system.
Through its participation in the Energy Smart Forum 2025, the ERC reaffirmed its commitment to working hand in hand with stakeholders across sectors in driving the country’s energy transition.
