Filinvest-ENGIE JV Powers Nexperia Plant with 3 MWp Solar Rooftop, Boosts Industrial Decarbonization in Laguna

Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc. (FREE), the joint venture between Filinvest Group and ENGIE Services Philippines, has completed a 3-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop installation for Nexperia Philippines Inc. at its facility in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The solar system, mounted on the rooftops of Nexperia’s assembly and testing plant inside Light Industry and Science Park I, is expected to reduce thousands of tons of carbon emissions annually while improving energy reliability and shielding operations from grid price volatility.

“This milestone in our push to expand renewable projects feels especially fitting as Filinvest celebrates 70 years of turning Filipino dreams into reality,” said Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Utilities Inc. and FREE. “We aim to help fortify Nexperia’s operations by improving the flexibility of its energy supply mix and boosting resilience against market fluctuations.”

The new solar facility supports Nexperia’s goal of ensuring stable power for its high-volume chip production operations. The Laguna plant produces up to one billion semiconductor components each year, where uninterrupted power is critical to maintaining output quality.

“In an industry where a single power fluctuation can jeopardize millions of precision chips, reliability is not a luxury—it is a competitive edge,” Roxas emphasized.

Gareth Hughes, Vice President and General Manager of Nexperia Philippines, praised the project’s smooth implementation and technical performance. “We have the hour-by-hour, day-by-day generation stats, and it is working remarkably well. This installation places us as pioneers within our group,” Hughes said.

The Nexperia system brings FREE’s total renewable energy portfolio to 17 MWp, which includes clean energy partnerships with APO Cement Corporation and Merasenko Corporation, along with its flagship 2.8 MWp solar rooftop project at Festival Supermall in Alabang. FREE’s mission is to deliver scalable, intelligent energy infrastructure for industrial clients nationwide.

Earlier in November 2024, FREE energized a rooftop system for Merasenko Corporation, a Japanese medical device maker located at Cebu Light Industrial Park in Lapu-Lapu City.

FREE is backed by ENGIE’s global energy expertise and Filinvest’s nationwide reach, targeting clients with high energy demand and strong environmental goals. According to Jean-Baptiste Dreanic, Managing Director of ENGIE Services Philippines, this partnership reflects the evolving needs of modern industries.

“This collaboration with Filinvest and Nexperia reflects our shared commitment to delivering practical, low-carbon solutions for industrial clients in the Philippines,” Dreanic said. “We’re proud to support companies like Nexperia on their sustainability journeys through reliable, energy-efficient infrastructure that’s built for long-term impact.”

As industries seek to balance productivity with environmental responsibility, Filinvest’s energy arm, FDC Utilities, continues to build a future-ready portfolio that addresses the country’s energy needs while advancing the transition to clean, resilient power.
