First Gen Corporation has secured a new agreement to provide renewable energy to two campuses of Far Eastern University (FEU).

Inquirer reported that the deal includes supplying 600 kilowatts (kW) of clean energy to the FEU Alabang campus in Muntinlupa and 650 kW to the FEU Institute of Technology near its main campus in Manila.

In 2017, First Gen began providing electricity to parts of FEU’s main campus under the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) policy.

RCOA enables customers consuming at least 500 kW of electricity monthly to source cheaper power directly from suppliers instead of local distributors.

FEU president Juan Miguel Montinola said that the institution’s goal is to achieve the highest social and educational impact while minimizing its environmental footprint.

First Gen vice president for marketing, trading, and economics, Carlo Vega, noted that diversifying power sources helps manage cost fluctuations and lower carbon emissions, saying that the firm is honored to expand its partnership with FEU across more campuses as they continue their decarbonization efforts.

First Gen leads the Philippine power generation market with 1,651 megawatts (MW) of capacity from 26 power plants utilizing geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar energy.
