CN Green Roof Asia (CNGRA), a Vietnam-based solar energy platform, officially broke ground on the 22.785 megawatt-peak (MWp) Solana Solar Bera Project in Hermosa, Bataan. Developed by Solana Solar Beta Inc., the project is a huge step forward for the country’s goal of continually developing its sustainable energy sector.
Once operational, the solar facility is expected to produce approximately 32.8 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually—enough to power nearly 30,000 individuals and offset roughly 14,053 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. This project is also expected to open 100 new job positions during its construction, as another benefit.
“Today’s groundbreaking is not just about building a solar facility; it’s about creating long-term value for people, planet, and progress,” said Steve Rawles, Chief Operating Officer of CNGRA. “We’re proud to bring our global expertise to the Philippines and help accelerate its clean energy goals.”
CNGRA CEO Rob Santler also highlighted the importance of collaboration in realizing the project’s potential. “This project is a testament to what strong partnerships can achieve. Together with our local collaborators, we’re building a more sustainable energy ecosystem that benefits communities now and for generations to come,” he said.
The project was praised for its positive environmental and economic impact by local government officials, Bataan Governor Joet Garcia and Hermosa Vice Mayor Patrick Rellosa. Meanwhile, representatives from the Peninsula Electric Cooperative (PENELCO) emphasized the role of renewable energy in enhancing regional energy security and grid stability.
The project is being developed in line with both national policies and international best practices for solar infrastructure. It is backed by CNGRA, a joint venture between Climate Investor One—a blended finance facility managed by Climate Fund Managers—and Norfund, the Norwegian government’s investment fund for developing countries.
As CNGRA continues to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia, the Solana Solar Bera Project stands as a model for international cooperation and climate-forward energy investments in the Philippines.
