InLife shifts to 100% renewable power with ACEN RES

Insular Life (InLife) has signed up with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to source 100% renewable energy for its corporate offices in Makati City and Alabang, marking one of the latest corporate transitions under the government’s retail power market framework.

In a disclosure by ACEN Corporation on Thursday, the Ayala-led energy firm said InLife will draw clean power from ACEN’s portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal facilities. The supply will cover the insurer’s headquarters in Makati and its office in Muntinlupa.

The shift is facilitated by the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access and the Green Energy Option Program, which allow qualified contestable customers to choose their electricity supplier.

“InLife’s transition to renewable energy and adherence to globally recognized standards in environmentally safe infrastructure are efforts to lead by example and drive meaningful change towards a sustainable future,” Hector A. Caunan, executive vice president and chief property investment officer of InLife, said.

ACEN said the arrangement will enable InLife to pursue both cost efficiencies and decarbonization targets, as more large power users explore renewable supply contracts amid rising sustainability reporting requirements.

“We are honored to partner with InLife, a leader in the insurance industry, on their journey to sustainability,” said Tony Valdez, senior vice president for market transformation and retail at ACEN. “This collaboration is a testament to the increasing consciousness of businesses to not only manage their operational costs but also to create a positive environmental impact. We are committed to supporting InLife in achieving their green ambitions.”

ACEN RES awarded InLife its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge, a seal granted to companies sourcing 100% of their electricity from the supplier.

ACEN, the Ayala group’s listed energy platform, has about 7 gigawatts of attributable renewable capacity across operational, under-construction, and committed projects in the Philippines and overseas markets.

Will more large commercial and financial institutions accelerate their shift to full renewable supply as competition in the retail electricity market deepens?
