The Jollibee Group is partnering with First Gen Corporation as it installs 16,800 solar panels in four of its manufacturing sites in the country in a bid to strengthen the food chain’s commitment to using renewable energy (RE).
“The largest renewable energy provider in the Philippines aims to support companies in their journey towards sustainability by empowering them with solutions to utilize electricity more efficiently,” said First Gen.
The Jollibee Group started the process of switching to renewable energy in November 2023 when it turned on its Zen3 plant in Canlubang, Laguna. Later, it expanded its clean energy options to include the Canlubang Baking Facility (CBF), which is the company’s largest manufacturing location. The combined capacity of these two facilities was 5.05 megawatts (MW).
Two recently powered facilities, Jollibee Worldwide Services-Logistics (JWS-L) in Paranaque and the C3 manufacturing plant in Laguna, round out the list. Together, these sites boast a combined energy capacity of 4.05 megawatts (MW).
Together, the four production sites may cut the chain’s grid power usage by 15% annually, which is a big step in the direction of a more environmentally friendly future.
“This is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey at the Jollibee Group. These initiatives are more than just technological advancement, but more importantly a shared commitment to preserving our planet and furthering our collective responsibility to create a more sustainable future,” said Jollibee Group Vice President and Head of Supply Chain Michael Ong.
The transition to RE for the manufacturing sites was part of the chain’s global sustainability agenda, which was a response to the United Nations’ urgent call to action.
Meanwhile, First Gen Corporation senior vice president and concurrent chief operating officer of Pi Energy Vincent Martin Villegas said that the energy farm was looking forward to continuing the partnership with the Jollibee Group to ensure a sustainable and regenerative future.
