Mabuhay Energy Corporation (MECO) has expanded its footprint in the retail electricity market, supplying power to 60 franchise-operated food retail stores under the Jollibee Group through the government’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
The company said the participating outlets—operated by franchisees and carrying brands such as Jollibee, Chowking, Red Ribbon, and Greenwich—have shifted to Mabuhay Energy as their electricity supplier to optimize power costs and improve operational efficiency.
The RAP allows qualified end-users to pool their electricity demand to meet the threshold required to enter the contestable market and select their preferred supplier. This mechanism enables smaller, distributed loads such as quick-service restaurants to access competitive electricity pricing.
Mabuhay Energy has been serving the stores across Metro Manila since 2025, with additional locations currently undergoing the switching process. The company emphasized that the transition is managed without disruption to operations, stating it ensures a “seamless switching process, from coordination to implementation, with no disruption to daily store activities and no impact on performance.”
The development underscores how recent policy adjustments—particularly the lowered 100-kilowatt threshold set by the Energy Regulatory Commission—are enabling more commercial establishments to participate in the retail electricity market through aggregation.
Mabuhay Energy said it continues to position itself as a supplier for a wide range of customers, from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to large corporations, offering access to competitive electricity supply and energy management solutions.
How scalable is the Retail Aggregation Program for other multi-site businesses in the Philippines, and what barriers remain to broader participation in the contestable market?
