The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) has begun scouring for suppliers to address the increasing demand from its customers in the upcoming year.
In a report by the Philippine Star, the distribution utility company had already set in motion the competitive selection process (CSP) for 1,800 megawatts (MW) of power supply.
This is in response to the Department of Energy (DOE) issuing a certificate of conformity on the terms of reference for a contract spanning 15 years that covers the baseload demand of 1,800 MW beginning in December 2024.
The CSP is set to fill the capacity previously covered by MERALCO’s 2021 PSAs with San Miguel units Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd. and Excellent Energy Resources Inc.
Interested power generation firms are required to submit their expressions of interest by November 13. The pre-bid conference is scheduled for November 20, and the bid submission deadline is December 26.
